General Information about your Guatemalan Retreat

We will be staying at the Tiosh Abaj Hotel in Santiago, in shared rooms at the
edge of the beautiful, sacred Lake Atitlan ( 5128 ft above sea level highland
Lake), and possibly visit our Patziapa Sanctuary. During our stay, we will be
taking a few short boat rides across the lake to other cities, weather permitting.

Included with the Event:

  • Hotel accommodations (based on shared rooms),
  • All meals (Meal plan can be excluded, price adjustment)
  • Boat transportation
  • Ceremonial materials
  • Teachings

NOT Included:

Airfare, extra meals in Guatemala City, shopping expenses, gifts for elders, tips,
all excursions not mentioned in the itinerary, added side trips outside planned
group activities or any extended hotel stays.

We encourage donations and gifts to the Medicine People who will be sharing
with us, we usually invite some of the Mayan elders and youth to join us for some
of the ceremonies. As we get closer we should have a better idea of how many
will be joining us. For now is three.

Nice gifts include some of the medicines from the north like sage, cedar,
sweetgrass, deer antlers, teas, tinctures, etc… It is traditional to offer gifts to the
Presenting Medicine People. We pool these all together to give them before they
leave us. Small things that have meaning from you are nice.

Note: We will be setting our personal mesas, and bundles (altar items), so bring
items that are special and sacred to you.

Currency in Guatemala is called Quetzals= 1 GTQ = $0.13 US dollar
Example $5.00 US=39Q / $100.00 = Q 787.55 (rate of exchange changes)
The people will negotiate if you buy a few items from them, they know you are
from the USA so they will try to hold their prices.

There are ATMs in Santiago that accepts your debit cards and pays in Quetzals.
You can sometimes also exchange US dollars at Tiosh Abaj. Best is to use the
ATM for large amounts.

Important: In general, it is best to put anything that can be considered a weapon
(stones, lighters, antlers, etc) in your checked bags and I usually take my bundle
in my carry-on to know it is with me. I have had security make me open it on
occasion, I tell them they are my sacred things and they cannot touch but I would
be happy to show them anything I have. Also, plant matter can be tricky so I
usually check that and try to disguise it a bit just in case like putting things in
socks, etc.

We will send a confirmation to you with a more detailed list of what to leave at
home and what you might want while there.

Optional Private Sessions may be offered, at an additional fee:

  • Private Oracle reading
  • Healing Ceremonies
  • Soul Purpose reading
